Meta is implementing another round of aggressive workforce reductions, cutting roughly 10% of its total staff. According to reports from Bloomberg, the move will result in approximately 8,000 layoffs and the elimination of 6,000 vacant positions.

In an internal memo, Janelle Gale, Meta’s Head of Human Resources, characterized the cuts as part of a “continued effort to run the company more efficiently.” The restructuring is designed to free up capital to offset massive investments in other areas, primarily artificial intelligence.
Meta has pivoted sharply toward developing proprietary AI models and integrating advanced AI capabilities into its hardware, such as its latest smart glasses. This shift suggests a strategic trade-off where traditional roles are being sacrificed to fund the company’s AI-first future.
