The upgraded set-top box is engineered specifically around Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. The updated voice interface prioritizes non-intrusive content discovery and general knowledge queries: answers and contextual information pop up in a subtle corner overlay rather than interrupting active video playback with spoken feedback.
Hardware additions include far-field microphone arrays built directly into the streaming box itself, enabling fully hands-free voice control without picking up the remote control. The software integration also draws contextual data from linked iOS devices, allowing users to issue natural prompts such as playing a show recommended in a recent text message thread.
To resolve missing controller woes, the updated Siri Remote now integrates built-in audio alerts. Users can ask Siri to locate the remote, triggering an audible chime from the accessory, alongside standard precision tracking via the Find My network.
Audio capabilities receive a substantial upgrade for home theatre enthusiasts. The next-generation Apple TV 4K now supports up to four HomePod units in a quad-surround sound configuration. The feature works across second-generation full-size HomePods, the newly announced HomePod mini 2, or a combined setup of two of each speaker model, expanding beyond the previous two-speaker limit.
The new Apple TV 4K is priced at $299 (approx. R5,250), representing a noticeable jump over previous model tiers as Apple positions the hardware as a premium smart home processing hub.
Pre-orders open today ahead of a global retail launch on 13 November. Official South African availability and ZAR pricing from local Apple Premium Resellers will be confirmed closer to the local release date.
