Luanda — Benin President Romuald Wadagni will take part in the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Conference on strengthening conflict prevention mechanisms in Africa, scheduled to take place in Luanda on 29 and 30 August.
The confirmation was made on Friday in Cotonou by the Deputy Secretary-General of Benin’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ako Amour-Marie Martinien, during a meeting with Angola’s ambassador to the country, José Bamóquina Zau.
According to a press release from the Angolan Embassy in Benin sent to ANGOP, the two sides also discussed the need to strengthen Benin’s participation in mediation and conflict resolution efforts in West Africa.
In this regard, they highlighted Angola’s experience in conflict prevention and resolution across the continent.

During the meeting, Ambassador José Bamóquina Zau delivered a message from Angolan President João Lourenço to his Beninese counterpart on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of Benin’s Independence, commemorated on 1 August.
Romuald Wadagni assumed the Presidency of Benin on 24 May 2026, with an agenda focused on the country’s political and economic stability.
As part of this programme, the Beninese President plans to hold an investment forum in September, during which he intends to present investors with a portfolio of projects valued at approximately three billion US dollars.
Angola and Benin maintain friendly relations and co-operation, strengthened through political dialogue and consultation within the framework of the African Union.
The two countries hold regular bilateral consultations to advance co-operation in trade, air connectivity, agriculture, culture and diplomatic training.
