Apple announces the iPhone 17e with double the storage

Apple has officially expanded its latest smartphone family with the introduction of the iPhone 17e. Maintaining the $599 entry price of its predecessor, this year’s “budget” model receives significant internal upgrades, most notably the A19 chip. This processor parity ensures that the 17e fully supports the Apple Intelligence suite, bringing flagship-level AI tools to Apple’s most affordable new device.

While the exterior retains the familiar 6.1-inch form factor and notch design, several critical performance bottlenecks have been addressed:

  • MagSafe & Qi2: Wireless charging speeds have doubled, jumping from 7.5W on the 16e to 15W on the new model.
  • C1X Cellular Modem: Apple claims this new silicon is up to 2x faster than the previous C1 modem, which, alongside the power management of iOS 26, helps maintain “all-day battery life.”
  • Ceramic Shield 2: The display now features a refreshed glass formulation that Apple says offers 3x better scratch resistance and significantly reduced glare.
  • Base Storage: The entry-level tier now starts at 256GB, and a new Pink finish has been added to the colour lineup.

The iPhone 17e continues to utilize the 48-megapixel Fusion camera. By using a single hardware sensor with two dedicated pipelines, it provides an “optical-quality” 2x Telephoto experience—effectively functioning as a dual-camera system in a single-lens footprint.

The device maintains an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and includes Apple’s vital safety stack, including Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, and Find My via satellite.
