Vivo launches X500 Pro Max with gimbal stabilization capabilities

While Chinese manufacturer Vivo continues its expansion in the high-spec imaging market, its flagship mobile offerings remain a secondary alternative to competitors like Xiaomi and Oppo across major Western regions. The launch of the Vivo X500 Pro Max targets professional mobile content creators, introducing a refined sensor setup, high-frame-rate video capabilities, and direct support for modular optical accessories co-developed with Zeiss.

The central hardware upgrade focuses on a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 1/1.28-inch main sensor featuring an f/1.6 aperture. Utilizing Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) technology, the sensor captures up to 17 stops of dynamic range by routing overflow light charges to internal pixel capacitors, preventing highlight clipping in high-contrast environments.

The secondary imaging array includes:

  • Periscope Telephoto: A 200MP 1/1.4-inch sensor offering up to 10x lossless zoom, supported by CIPA 7.0-rated Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to minimize micro-tremors during long-focal-length captures.
  • Ultra-Wide Lens: A 50MP 1/1.75-inch sensor configured for broad-perspective shots.
  • Gimbal-Grade Main Stabilization: A physical three-degree gimbal OIS system built directly into the primary sensor housing, eliminating motion judder during handheld tracking shots.

Video processing receives a substantial boost via an updated chipset architecture, enabling 4K video recording at up to 240 fps, doubling the 120 fps ceiling of the previous X300 Ultra. Professional videography workflows are further supported through custom LUT integration with real-time previews, alongside ACES-compliant log recording profiles.

The device maintains compatibility with Vivo’s Gen 2 Zeiss teleconverter system, requiring a dedicated mounting plate case. The Gen 2 Telephoto Extender delivers a 2.35x magnification factor, while the Gen 2 Ultra provides a 4.7x optical magnification overlay on top of the 200MP periscope sensor.

However, despite improvements in computational rendering pipelines, extreme telephoto magnifications continue to display aggressive AI smoothing artifacts, particularly on human facial textures and distant text elements under low-light conditions.

Underneath the chassis, the X500 Pro Max introduces MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro 2nm processor, paired with a large 7,800mAh battery in select international markets. Charging capabilities reach up to 90W via proprietary power adapters, alongside integrated bypass charging functionality to reduce thermal throttling during intensive gaming or extended 4K recording sessions.

The front panel features a 6.85-inch AMOLED display supporting Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and dynamic 144Hz refresh rates. The chassis carries combined IP68 and IP69 ratings, protecting against both continuous water submersion and high-pressure water jets.

Software execution remains the primary bottleneck for the user experience. Operating on Origin OS 7, the system presents frequent pop-up prompts for basic system gestures, alongside pre-installed bloatware centred around the proprietary V-App Store.

The global distribution rollout focuses primarily on Asia, Europe, and Latin America, including Spain, Italy, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Brazil, while excluding North American and UK retail channels. Official regional pricing will be confirmed following regional launch events.
