Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) officially went live in South Africa, giving eager fans their first look at local pricing for what is expected to be one of the most lucrative video games of all time. The standard edition of the highly anticipated crime title is priced at R1,499, while the deluxe edition is retailing for R1,899 through Sony’s PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store for Xbox.

The South African pricing closely aligns with the U.S. baseline announced by developer Rockstar Games, which starts at $79.99 (~R1,330, excluding VAT) for the Standard Edition and $99.99 (~R1,663, excluding VAT) for the Ultimate Edition. Once South Africa’s 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) is factored in, local costs are directly in line with international markets.
Rockstar is incentivizing early adopters with a suite of digital bonuses. All pre-orders placed before launch will include the Vintage Vice City Pack, a nostalgic collection of items from GTA Vice City. Additionally, digital pre-orders come with a free, instantly redeemable month of GTA+, allowing players to immediately access bonuses in GTA V and other classic Rockstar titles while preparing for the ever-evolving GTA Online.
To accommodate massive file sizes, Rockstar is offering an aggressive pre-loading schedule starting 12 November 2026.
- Digital Copies: Players can begin downloading the game files directly to their consoles.
- Physical Copies: Retail boxed versions, which will contain a download code rather than a physical disc, will hit store shelves early on November 12 specifically to support pre-loading ahead of the official unlock time.
The firm November date brings immense relief to a fanbase where the long gap since GTA V has turned into a legendary internet joke (spawned by memes like, “We got a new Beatles song before GTA VI!”). The game was originally slated for a late 2025 release before being pushed to May 2026, and finally to its current date after parent company Take-Two Interactive Software granted Rockstar an additional six-month window for maximum polish.
The launch carries unprecedented pressure. The predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, has sold over 220 million copies, standing as the second-best-selling video game in history behind only Minecraft.
“It’s always painful when we move a date,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors, noting that rival studios have historically destroyed franchises by rushing unfinished products to market. “We’ve never regretted it in retrospect.”
The commencement of live pre-orders heavily indicates that the game’s current 19 November 2026 release date on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is firmly locked in. Speaking on the sheer scale of the launch, Zelnick recently admitted to Bloomberg that he remains both intensely excited and terrified by the monumental expectations surrounding the title.
