Jay-Z to headline Super Bowl halftime show

Jay-Z has helped select artists for the last several Super Bowl halftime shows.

Now, the 25-time Grammy winner and mogul will step into the performer role as the headliner for the 2027 show.

The NFL and Apple Music announced the news on social media during Monday night’s game, confirming recent reporting about the halftime show from Puck that cited industry sources.

“GOAT’s out of the bag,” read the post, which featured a black-and-white video of Jay-Z in the stands with a goat on his lap as “Allow me to reintroduce myself,” the opening line of his song “Public Service Announcement (Interlude)” plays.

Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, has served as a partner to the NFL and produced the halftime show since 2019.

“For several years, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with Jay-Z and Roc Nation, and I’ve seen the extraordinary impact he has had on the Super Bowl Halftime Show,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him. I couldn’t be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage.”

Super Bowl 61 will take place on Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The game and halftime show will air on ESPN, ABC and Disney+, and on mobile devices with NFL+

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, just wrapped his “30 Tour,” which celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut album, “Reasonable Doubt.” His final two shows were at SoFi.

“From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey,” Jay-Z said in a statement Monday. “Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”

During the tour, which featured stops in Paris, London and Jay-Z’s hometown of New York City, the rapper brought up several guests, including his wife, superstar Beyoncé.

It’s unclear whether Bey or any of Jay-Z’s many other famous friends and collaborators will make cameos during the halftime performance.

Many artists who have headlined the event have brought on major stars. But several, including The Weeknd and Rihanna, chose to shine solo when they appeared at the event.

Last year’s game, which was broadcast on NBC and Peacock, featured Bad Bunny as the headliner, with Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin making cameos. The performance was awarded seven Creative Arts Emmys this year, making it the most-awarded halftime show in history. It marked Bad Bunny’s first Emmy and Jay-Z’s third, with both artists serving as producers last year.

Kendrick Lamar, who headlined the 2025 show, also took home an Emmy after tackling the gig.

Next year, Apple’s Vice President of Music and International Content Oliver Schusser said fans can expect “an incredible show” from Jay-Z, whose “impact on global music culture is as profound as it is undeniable.”
