Grand Theft Auto VI extended showcase tops Netflix streaming charts

An extended preview of Grand Theft Auto VI dominated Netflix’s streaming charts for the week of August 24 through August 30, claiming the top spot on the platform’s global movie rankings. Despite securing only a brief six-hour exclusivity window on August 27 before Rockstar Games uploaded the footage to YouTube, the nearly 30-minute video accumulated 31.1 million views on Netflix, reaching the number one movie ranking across 58 countries.

Following the expiration of Netflix’s exclusive window, Rockstar published the showcase to its official YouTube channel, where it quickly gathered over 17.7 million views. As noted by Variety, the two platforms calculate viewership using fundamentally different metrics: YouTube logs a view as soon as video playback begins, whereas Netflix measures views by dividing total hours watched by runtime to calculate complete view equivalents. That Netflix generated such substantial viewership within a six-hour window underscores the massive public demand surrounding the release.
