Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon revealed the plan, and Sameer Samat, Google’s head of the Android Ecosystem, provided a timeline. “Something we’re super excited about for next year,” Samat stated during the keynote, signalling that the new OS will arrive in 2026.
While neither company has disclosed the specifics of their collaboration, it’s widely speculated that the new OS will be optimized for Qualcomm’s PC chips. Qualcomm recently announced the new Snapdragon X2 Elite and Elite Extreme processors, which it claims are the most efficient chips for Windows PCs. It is highly likely that a new Android-based OS for computers would target these chips to maximize performance and efficiency.
