Citroën has officially revealed the 2 CV Concept at the Paris Motor Show, an all-electric reinvention of its iconic compact city car. Following an initial teaser in March, the French automaker confirmed that while the vehicle is currently a concept, it directly paves the way for a production model slated to hit the market within the next two years at a target starting price of €15,000 (approx. R288,000).

Debuting in the same venue where the original 2 CV was unveiled in 1948 and famously featured in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only, the new concept updates the classic curved silhouette with contemporary styling. Citroën designed the EV to embody the core philosophy of the original: affordability, lightweight construction, and everyday practicality. The concept also includes playful design nods, such as a brake pedal stamped with a tortoise icon and an accelerator marked with a hare.

The interior focuses on maximizing passenger volume through recessed door trim, wide bench-style seating, and a removable front passenger seat. To enhance cabin flexibility, traditional fixed components have been replaced with modular alternatives, including a detachable central storage basket instead of a standard console and a removable radio unit.
In place of a traditional dashboard, the driver controls are integrated into a single column supporting the steering wheel, gear selector paddles, primary control levers, and a central eight-inch touchscreen display.
While many of the concept’s more experimental interior elements may be adapted to comply with international automotive safety regulations, Citroën emphasized that the upcoming production variant will prioritize lightweight efficiency and essential electric mobility.
The vehicle is targeted primarily at European markets where compact, affordable EVs are seeing increased demand. However, local distribution in South Africa remains unconfirmed, as Citroën continues to evaluate its regional portfolio strategy.
