Ask a teenager how school was and you’ll hear “fine”. Since 21 October, CambriLearn parents have had a better source. They can ask an AI assistant, and the answer comes from the school’s own records.
CambriLearn, an accredited online private school for students aged four to 19 in more than 100 countries, has connected CambriCommand, its parent view, to AI assistants. The connection is free for CambriLearn families. It is live with Claude, made by Anthropic, and ChatGPT support is almost ready.
Parents type questions in their own words, such as “Did Emma go to all her live lessons this week?” or “Is Thabo’s report card ready?” The assistant can cover attendance, upcoming lessons, homework, marked work with the teacher’s comments, course progress and report cards. Parents can take it further and ask for a two-week maths plan around the lessons and homework still to come. A parent can ask for a summary of the week ahead on a Sunday night, then check on Wednesday what has been missed.
The specifics change the conversation at home. “Your biology mark went up this term” gives a teenager something to talk about over supper.
Why an online school built it
Parents of online learners don’t get a quick word with a teacher at the school gate. They keep up through the school’s records, which do the job of the corridor conversation at a campus school. Parents already ask AI assistants for help with homework and university applications, and some paste screenshots of report cards into chatbots to make sense of them. CambriLearn took its records to the assistants those parents already use.
With families in more than 100 countries, many CambriLearn parents are awake when the school’s offices are closed. A parent in Dubai can ask at 10pm and get the same answer as a parent in Johannesburg at lunchtime.
CambriLearn expects parents to want every school to work with their AI assistant within a few years, and it wants to set the standard for how schools handle it.
Parents stay in control
CambriLearn’s own product and engineering team built the connection, with limits that keep it in the parent’s hands. The assistant can read but never change anything, and it sees only the children linked to that parent’s account. Nothing is shared until a parent approves the connection, and they can switch it off whenever they choose.
Students can’t connect an assistant, and nobody at the school can connect one on a parent’s behalf. CambriLearn doesn’t store the questions parents ask or the answers they get. For parents comparing schools, the questions worth asking any of them are what the technology can see and who controls it. Like any AI tool, an assistant can get a summary wrong, and CambriLearn’s records remain the reference.
Where it fits
CambriCommand is one of the four connected school experiences that make up CambriOS, which CambriLearn launched in August 2026 alongside CambriCampus, CambriPathways and CambriCommunity. CambriCampus holds the live lessons, coursework and recordings, CambriPathways covers the six accredited pathways, and CambriCommunity runs clubs, study groups and meetups. CambriCommand shows parents the attendance, progress and standing as the week unfolds, and the AI connection lets them ask about all of it in plain words.
Teaching stays with CambriLearn’s qualified subject specialists, in live, timetabled lessons. The AI works on the parent’s side of the school.
CambriLearn has taught more than 80 000 students since it was founded in 2008. It is accredited by Cognia and Pearson Edexcel, registered with the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (Sacai) and the Independent Examinations Board (IEB), and approved by the US National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It teaches six pathways: the International British Curriculum, Pearson Edexcel, US K-12, South Africa’s Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (Caps), its Afrikaans equivalent (KABV) and the IEB.
