Following last month’s confirmation that the Call of Duty video game franchise is officially making the leap to the big screen, creative details for the motion picture project are now emerging. Deadline reports that the movie will be helmed by a proven team: Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg.

The duo is well-known for their successful collaborations on films like Hell or High Water (2016) and Wind River (2017). For the upcoming adaptation by Paramount, both Berg and Sheridan will serve as producers and co-writers, with Berg also currently attached to direct the film.
This partnership brings together Berg’s experience in action and military dramas—he is perhaps best known as the creator of the celebrated football drama Friday Night Lights and producer on his past films with Sheridan. Sheridan, meanwhile, has achieved massive success with his recent TV endeavours, including the critically acclaimed Yellowstone franchise, alongside other hits like Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown, and Tulsa King.
This background suggests the Call of Duty movie is likely to embrace a contemporary, grounded aesthetic, moving away from some of the franchise’s more futuristic or historical settings.
With the director, producers, and writers only just locked down, there has been no public discussion yet regarding which specific era of the highly lucrative CoD franchise the movie will tackle. Fans will have to wait for confirmation on the story’s setting and details on casting, which are expected to follow as the project moves into development.
