Following a prototype showcase, BMW has fully revealed the all-new i3 electric vehicle. Departing significantly from the quirky 2013 hatchback, the new i3 is a sophisticated, sporty sedan built on the Neue Klasse platform. It aligns with the “Vision Neue Klasse” concept, offering a sleek alternative to the gas-powered 3 Series while ditching the controversial oversized grille seen on recent M models.

The i3 50 xDrive configuration features a dual-motor setup and an 800-volt electrical architecture. Together, they produce 345 kW (463 HP) and 645 Nm (476 lb-ft) of torque, figures that nearly rival the high-performance G80 M3.
Efficiency is equally impressive. BMW estimates a range of 708 km (440 miles), supported by a battery pack integrated directly into the chassis for reduced weight and improved rigidity. The system supports DC fast charging up to 400 kW, allowing for energy replenishment 30% faster than previous generations. Additionally, the i3 supports bidirectional charging, enabling the car to serve as a backup power source for your home during outages.
Visually, the i3 blends “muscle car” allure with modern minimalism. The front fascia integrates the grille and headlights into a single unit, complemented by a recessed hood and flared fenders. The signature “Le Catellet Blue” metallic paint and customizable lighting animations, Relaxed, Excited, and Balanced, add a high-tech flair.
Inside, the cabin is a futuristic leap forward. It features a massive 17.9-inch Panoramic Vision display angled toward the driver, alongside an optional 3D heads-up display. The infotainment system is powered by an AI-enhanced Amazon Alexa+ voice assistant. Controls utilize “Shy Tech”—buttons on the steering wheel that remain invisible until needed, maintaining a clean, uncluttered aesthetic.
BMW offers various sustainable interior trims, including “Veganza” imitation leather in shades like Agave Green and Digital White, or premium Merino leather for those opting for the BMW Individual scheme. The car also supports Digital Key Plus, allowing owners to operate the vehicle entirely via smartphone or smartwatch.
Production of the i3 is set to begin in August 2026, with deliveries starting in the fall. While final pricing remains under wraps, the combination of a 708 km range and M-level performance suggests a premium price tag.
