DuckDuckGo has launched an integrated video ad-blocking feature designed to eliminate non-skippable advertisements, particularly on YouTube, when playing content directly inside its proprietary web browser.

The browser’s new ad-detection system relies primarily on open-source community filter lists derived from uBlock Origin. To ensure a seamless viewing experience and maintain site stability, DuckDuckGo applies its own supplementary optimization rules on top of these open-source filters.

However, the company noted that using the ad-blocker may introduce minor trade-offs. Viewers might experience slightly longer initial video buffering times, and occasional playback hiccups or compatibility issues could occur as YouTube continuously updates its ad-delivery architecture.

The new video ad-blocking capabilities are rolling out across multiple operating systems with varying default settings:

  • Android: The update will be automatically activated in an upcoming deployment. In the meantime, Android users can manually turn on the feature by navigating to the browser’s settings menu.

Users across all supported platforms retain full control over the feature and can toggle YouTube ad blocking on or off at any time through their in-app preferences.
