Apple is reportedly in early talks with Google to use its Gemini model for a revamped version of Siri, according to Bloomberg. The potential partnership is a sign of the challenges Apple has faced in developing its own AI, particularly after the significant delay of its new Siri features.

Sources say Apple is exploring two versions of the new Siri: one powered by its own internal models (Linwood) and another that would run on outside technology (Glenwood). A final decision has not been made, and Apple could still choose to stick with its in-house solution.
This move comes after Apple failed to launch its updated Siri with Apple Intelligence in iOS 18, a feature that was intended to allow the assistant to use personal data to perform actions within apps. The delay has reportedly caused internal turmoil and led Apple to consider a third-party model.
The report notes that using a version of Gemini that runs on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers could provide an extra layer of security. If the partnership moves forward, it would place Apple in a similar position to Samsung, which uses a combination of custom models and Gemini to power its Galaxy AI. The move would also represent a major shift in strategy for Apple, as it would be ceding a potentially key technology to a direct competitor.
