Apple is reportedly shifting its AI focus to new smart home products, according to a recent report from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. Sources familiar with the matter say the company is developing a lineup of new devices that could serve as a fresh entry point for its lagging artificial intelligence efforts.

The most ambitious product is a tabletop AI companion described as an iPad on a movable robotic arm. This device could swivel to face a user as they move around a room, with its screen capable of extending about six inches from its base. Running on a new operating system called Charismatic and equipped with a long-promised overhaul to Siri, the device could act as a conversational assistant, recalling information, offering suggestions, and participating in discussions. This AI companion is reportedly targeting a 2027 release date.
Apple’s new lineup is also rumoured to include a simpler smart home hub, a non-robotic version of the companion device that could arrive sooner, possibly in 2026. This hub would handle tasks like music playback, note-taking, web Browse, and video conferencing. Both devices are said to be designed for multiple users, and the Siri on them will reportedly have a particularly “cheery” personality, possibly with a visual representation resembling an animated Finder icon or Memoji.
These rumours build on earlier reports from Gurman about Apple’s interest in smart home hubs and personal robots. While this latest information offers more detail, it’s important to remember that Apple’s plans can change or be scrapped altogether.
