You can now test games on Google Play before buying it

Google is introducing a suite of new features for the Play Store aimed at lowering the barrier to entry for paid titles and enhancing the in-game experience. The headlining addition is Game Trials, a feature that allows users to play a portion of a premium game for free before committing to a purchase.

Game Trials is currently rolling out to select paid mobile games and is expected to arrive on Google Play Games for PC shortly. On a supported game’s profile page, users will find a “Try” button. Clicking this reveals a specific countdown for the trial period; for example, the popular survival-horror title Dredge currently offers 60 minutes of unrestricted play. Once the timer expires, players are given the choice to purchase the game to continue their progress or delete it from their device.

Google is also doubling down on its support for independent developers. Over the coming months, the store will see the release of several highly anticipated indie titles, including Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, and Low-Budget Repairs.

To better cater to desktop users, a new dedicated section has been launched within the Play Store featuring games specifically optimized for Windows PCs. This section includes a wishlist integration, allowing users to receive notifications the moment their tracked PC titles go on sale.

For players seeking assistance during gameplay, Google is rolling out Play Games Sidekick. This Gemini-powered Android overlay, first teased last year, provides real-time information and tools relevant to the game currently being played, eliminating the need to switch apps for a search query.

For those who prefer human advice over AI assistance, Google has launched Community Posts. Now available in English for select titles, this feature allows players to view tips, tricks, and discussions from fellow gamers directly on the game’s Play Store page.
