Lenovo already boasts an extensive lineup of gaming handhelds, but at MWC, the company proved there is always room for innovation. Their latest project, the Legion Go Fold, is an ambitious concept built around a flexible OLED display. While the hardware initially appears ungainly, the level of adaptability is genuinely intriguing.

The centrepiece of the device is an 11.6-inch display, a size that feels massive for a “portable” handheld. However, the brilliance of the design lies in its flexibility; the screen can fold down to a much more manageable 7.7-inch panel. In this compact configuration, the system feels less cumbersome and adopts a more traditional aspect ratio, while still offering the option to expand for an immersive, large-screen experience at a moment’s notice.

The Legion Go Fold stands out for its detachable controllers and multiple mounting points, enabling at least four distinct modes of play:
- Widescreen Mode: Rotate the tablet into landscape and reattach the controllers for a cinematic feel.
- Tabletop Mode: Prop the display up using the folio kickstand and slide the controllers into a grip accessory, similar to a Nintendo Joy-Con setup.
- Laptop Mode: A strip of pogo pins allows for a wireless keyboard attachment, transforming the handheld into a miniature gaming PC.
- Handheld Mode: Use the device in its folded 7.7-inch or unfolded 11.6-inch state.
The right gamepad is packed with utility, featuring a 1-inch OLED display that hosts widgets for time and performance stats. This mini-screen doubles as a touchpad for mouse-heavy PC titles. Additionally, like its predecessors, the gamepad includes a scroll wheel and a hidden sensor, allowing it to function as a vertical “FPS mouse.”
Since this is a concept, production plans are not yet finalized. However, the demo unit was impressively specced with an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V chip, 32GB of RAM, and a 48WHr battery. While the performance is respectable, a retail version would likely need a higher-capacity battery to support that large OLED panel.
The Legion Go Fold is a compelling showcase of how folding technology can breathe new life into existing categories. While the price of such a complex machine would likely be steep, it represents a bold vision for the future of mobile gaming.
