Rock Your Funky Socks to Support ECD Centres

Funky Socks Day 2025 is back — and this year, it’s aiming even higher. The nationwide fundraiser, led by PNA and now in its fourth year, hopes to raise R2.5 million by 12 September 2025 for four beneficiaries, including Breadline Africa.

For Breadline Africa, one of South Africa’s leading early childhood development (ECD) non-profits, the funds will go toward placing educational resource packs into the hands of children in some of the country’s most under-resourced communities.

“For many children, this will be the very first time they own their own pencil case, workbook, and basic learning tools,” says Marion Wagner, CEO of Breadline Africa. “It’s a small step that can spark a lifelong love of learning.”

Why Funky Socks Day Matters

More than just a fun dress-up event, Funky Socks Day has become a collective act of kindness. For just R10 in South Africa or N$10 in Namibia, supporters can buy a sticker, or take it further by wearing limited-edition funky socks designed exclusively for the campaign.

On Friday, 12 September 2025, schools, businesses, and individuals across South Africa and Namibia will #RockYourFunkySocks to show support for Breadline Africa and fellow beneficiaries CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA, Rally to Read, and Matla a Bana.

Breadline Africa’s Impact

For more than 30 years, Breadline Africa has replaced unsafe, makeshift structures with safe classrooms, kitchens, and toilets in ECD centres. Their mission is to create spaces where children can dream, play, and learn with dignity — a mission that has already touched the lives of over 1.5 million children.

“This is about more than a pencil case or a workbook,” Wagner adds. “It’s about giving a child the tools to feel proud, to believe in themselves, and to know their future matters.”

How to Get Involved

  • Buy a Sticker: In-store at any PNA branch from 18 July 2025 (Mandela Day), or online at pna.co.za.

  • Wear Your Funky Socks: Join the movement on 12 September 2025 and share your photos with #FunkySocksDay2025 and #RockYourFunkySocks.

  • Custom Sock Orders: Schools and corporates can place bulk orders, with all proceeds going to the cause.

Last year, Funky Socks Day raised R1.5 million. This year’s target is bigger, the energy higher, and the heart behind the cause stronger than ever.

For Breadline Africa, every sticker sold is a step toward a brighter future for South Africa’s youngest learners. Learn more at breadlineafrica.org.
