The judge overseeing Donald Trump’s Manhattan trial received a bomb threat at his home Thursday. There were threats that “fertilizer bombs” were planted around the home of Justice Arthur Engoron, a source said. The incident came ahead of closing arguments in Trump’s civil fraud trial.
New York authorities on Thursday morning responded to the home of the judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s high-profile Manhattan trial after a bomb threat was made against the justice ahead of closing arguments in the case.
There were threats that multiple “fertilizer bombs” were planted around the Long Island home of New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron, a court source who spoke on the condition of anonymity told Business Insider.
Engoron, who has been presiding over Trump’s civil fraud trial for the last three months, is expected to hear closing arguments in the case on Thursday.
“At this moment, we believe that the proceedings are going ahead as scheduled today,” Al Baker, a spokesman for the state Office of Court Administration, told reporters.
The state court spokesman noted that Engoron will have “extra layers of security out of concern for his safety” due to the bomb threat incident.
Nassau County police were made aware of the threat against Engoron at 5:30 a.m., a court source told Business Insider. Engoron was not cleared by authorities to leave his home until around 8 a.m., the source said.
