Almost five years after the PlayStation 5’s launch, rumours about Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 6, are starting to emerge. A recent video from the leaker Moore’s Law is Dead claims to reveal extensive details about the PS6’s potential specs, pricing, and release timing. It’s important to note that these details are reportedly sourced from a leaked AMD presentation to Sony from 2023, meaning some specifications may have since changed.

The leaks suggest Sony is focusing on a lower power output and a cost-conscious approach for the PS6. The new console is rumoured to have three times the 3D rendering performance of the original PS5 and roughly double the performance of the PS5 Pro. Additionally, the PS6 is expected to maintain full backward compatibility with both the PS4 and PS5. The rumoured launch price is set at $499, a price point that could mirror the PS4’s success by making the console highly competitive from day one.
Sony is also reportedly developing a new PlayStation 6 handheld to complement the console. According to the leaks, this handheld will feature a microSD slot, an M.2 SSD slot, a touchscreen, haptic feedback, and dual microphones. Its specs are rumoured to surpass those of the ROG Xbox Ally X, and a USB-C port could provide video-out capabilities. The handheld is expected to be priced between $400 and $500.
The leaker claims that Sony plans to begin manufacturing both the PS6 and its accompanying handheld in mid-2027, with a potential release window spanning from fall 2027 to early 2028.
