Assab, 02 March 2024- The Southern Red Sea Region Assembly held its 20th regular meeting on 28 and 29 February in the port city of Assab. The meeting was attended by heads of departments in the region, sub-zonal administrators, heads of line ministries, and national associations.
Mr. Ali Nur, chairman of the Assembly, commends the effort exerted in the implementation of resolutions adopted by the Assembly in its regular meeting last year. He urged for continued dedication to the implementation of the 2024 programs. At the meeting, reports were presented in the sectors of agriculture, marine resources, education, potable water supply, as well as cultural and sports activities. These reports highlighted the achievements made and the challenges faced in each sector.
According to the report presented, significant community involvement was noted in several initiatives, such as water and soil conservation, the construction of maternity waiting rooms, additional classrooms, and health facilities, and efforts to support educators. The assembly was informed that in 2023, over 70,000 livestock were vaccinated, and vocational training programs were provided to traditional fishermen, and vegetable and fruit farmers, covering a range of subjects.
The members of the Assembly conducted extensive discussion on the reports presented and adopted various recommendations.
Ambassador Mohammed-Seid Mantai, Governor of the region, gave an extensive briefing on the charted-out development programs for 2024 and called on members of the Assembly to play their due part in motivating the public in the implementation of the programs.
