National Conference on Dairy Value-Chain concludes

Asmara, 22 February 2024- The National Conference on the Dairy Value Chain, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, concluded today at the Asmara Palace Hotel. The conference was conducted under the theme “Platform for Ensuring Sufficient, Affordable, and Safe Milk and its Products.”

The second day of the conference featured presentations on various research topics, including the health of livestock and milk, diseases impacting dairy production, zoonotic diseases (animal-to-human diseases), and the dairy development experiences of participating countries.

The conference highlighted Eritrea’s significant potential for dairy development. The discussions emphasized the importance of integrated dairy farming, strong partnerships for sector growth, the role of research and innovation in addressing challenges, and the critical need for training women and youth involved in the dairy industry. The conference reached a consensus on these crucial topics.

Mr. Arefaine Berhe, the Minister of Agriculture, engaged in in-depth discussions with senior representatives and officials from partner organizations, on voluntary capacity building, the exchange of experiences and technology, and the development of policies and strategies for the sector.

In recognition of their contributions to dairy development, exemplary farmers were awarded certificates during the event.

Dr. Tsegay Tesfaye, the coordinator of the conference, expressed optimism about the conference’s positive impact on enhancing the sector’s prestige.

Participants of the conference are scheduled to visit dairy-related companies on Friday, February 23, 2024, to gain further insights into the industry.
