Diplomatic Activities by Diaspora Nationals

Asmara, 02 May 2024 – The Eritrean community in Basel, Switzerland, conducted their 5th congress on 21 April, while nationals in the US held meetings of national associations.

At the congress in Basel, Mr. Habtom Zeray, Chargé d’Affaires at the Eritrean Embassy in Switzerland, and Mr. Tewolde Yohannes, Head of Public and Community Affairs, provided extensive briefings on the current situation in the homeland and the region, as well as on the role of Diaspora nationals in preserving and transferring noble societal values.

Mr. Amnauel Tekle, chairman of the Eritrean community, reported that the community has conducted encouraging activities, including the establishment of a mother tongue school, the implementation of community and national programs, and the strengthening of unity and organization among nationals.

The participants discussed extensively the issues raised at the congress and elected a new executive committee.

Mr. Habtom Zeray and Mr. Tewolde Yohannes conducted similar seminars for Eritrean communities in the Swiss cities of Bern and St. Gallen and for members of the YPFDJ in Switzerland and Geneva. These seminars focused on consular services for nationals and the objective situation in the homeland and the region and the role of Diaspora nationals in national affairs.

In the same vein, members of the Eritrean community in various Swiss cities contributed a total of 51,643 Swiss kroner towards augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund. Notably, nationals in Cur contributed 3,600 kroner in support of five families of martyrs.

In related news, nationals in the US cities of Oakland, Houston, Seattle, New York, Atlanta, Washington D.C., and Las Vegas conducted meetings of national associations.
