Huawei debuts ultra-lightweight Watch Runner 2

At its Innovative Product Launch event in Madrid, Huawei unveiled a fresh lineup of wearables, headlined by the Watch GT Runner 2. Specifically engineered for endurance athletes, the new smartwatch features two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge as its global ambassador, signalling Huawei’s intent to dominate the professional running segment.

The Watch GT Runner 2 is built around what Huawei calls the “aesthetics of speed.” The standout feature is its aerospace-grade titanium case, which has been slimmed down to just 10.7mm in thickness. By utilizing high-strength, lightweight materials, the case weighs only 34.5 grams—a 10% reduction compared to the previous generation. When paired with the specialized AirDry woven strap, the entire device weighs a mere 43.5 grams, making it the lightest metal smartwatch in the industry tailored for runners.

To ensure durability without adding bulk, the Watch GT Runner 2 is the first Huawei wearable to incorporate Kunlun Glass. This proprietary material offers 20 times the impact resistance of standard glass while remaining thinner and lighter than traditional sapphire.

For athletes who struggle with GPS drift, Huawei has introduced a 3D floating antenna architecture. This hardware setup, combined with an advanced trajectory algorithm, is designed to eliminate signal disruptions often encountered in tunnels or high-altitude mountainous terrain. Beyond its specialized running metrics, the watch supports over 100 sports modes and a full suite of flagship health and wellness tracking features.

Recognizing the demands of long-distance training, Huawei equipped the watch with a high-silicon battery. This new cell offers a 68% higher energy density than the original Watch GT Runner. The power performance is optimized for various intensities
