Good news for Xbox gamers: Helldivers 2, the popular third-person co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, is finally making its way to Xbox on August 26. The sequel, originally launched in early 2024 for PlayStation 5 and Windows, already supports cross-platform play, so Xbox players will be able to join the battle alongside their friends on other systems.

Helldivers 2 has been a massive hit since its release. The game has sold over 15 million copies and shattered records on Steam, reaching an impressive 450,000 concurrent players. This made it the highest-ever concurrent player count among PlayStation titles released for PC. The game’s immense popularity even led to a brief, controversial attempt by Sony to mandate PlayStation Network account linking, which sparked significant backlash from the player base before the policy was ultimately reversed.
Game Director Mikael Eriksson expressed excitement about the Xbox launch, stating, “we know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun.”
This release marks a rare occasion for a Sony-published game to arrive on Xbox systems, following in the footsteps of the MLB: The Show series. It remains to be seen whether this is an isolated exception or if it signals a new trend for Sony to bring its titles to a broader audience.
Players eager to join the fight can pre-order digital copies of both the standard and Super Citizen Editions of Helldivers 2 now. Details regarding a physical copy release are currently unclear.
