Rockstar Games has announced another delay for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, pushing its release back from May 26th, 2026, to November 19th, 2026. The title remains slated for launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S consoles.

The delay marks the second schedule adjustment for the game, which was originally planned for a 2025 release.
Rockstar Games issued an apology to fans, stating the extra months are necessary to deliver the expected level of polish. “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” the studio said.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick backed the decision, emphasizing that the company prioritizes product quality over hitting an arbitrary timeline. “If a game requires more polish to be the best possible version of itself, then we will give that game more time,” Zelnick told The Game Business. He confirmed that the new date keeps the release within the same fiscal year and represents a strong launch window.
GTA VI returns players to the sprawling state of Leonida, which includes the iconic Vice City. The story centres on two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. According to descriptions from the second trailer, the pair are forced to rely on each other after an “easy score goes wrong,” landing them in the middle of a major criminal conspiracy.
The delay announcement follows recent external scrutiny. Last week, Rockstar faced accusations of “union busting” after reportedly firing 30 to 40 employees. A Rockstar spokesperson countered the claim, telling Bloomberg that the actions were taken against a “small number of individuals who were found to be distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum” and were in no way related to union activities.
