Google’s NotebookLM is rolling out a new Video Overviews feature that uses AI to create narrated slideshows. Currently available in English, Google plans to add support for more languages in the near future.

The company describes the new feature as a “visual alternative to Audio Overviews,” where an AI host creates new visuals to illustrate points. The videos also incorporate images, diagrams, quotes, and numbers directly from your source documents. This makes it a powerful tool for explaining data, demonstrating processes, and clarifying abstract concepts. According to a demo video, Video Overviews will include standard playback controls, such as 10-second skips and adjustable playback speed. Google also plans to introduce more formats in the future.
In addition to Video Overviews, Google is updating NotebookLM’s Studio tab, the dedicated space for generating AI outputs like Audio Overviews, study guides, and briefing documents. The most significant change is the ability to “create and store multiple studio outputs of the same type in a single notebook.” This means you can now generate multiple Audio or Video Overviews from the same set of source materials.
The Studio tab is also receiving a visual refresh, with four new tiles at the top for quickly creating Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Mind Maps, and Reports. These changes will be rolling out to all users over the next few weeks.
