Despite the integration of Google’s technology, Apple has emphasized that Apple Intelligence will continue to prioritize its established privacy standards by utilizing a combination of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. This agreement follows a series of delays and shifting strategies for Apple’s voice assistant. While a generative AI version of Siri was first previewed at WWDC 2024, the company postponed a major update in March 2025. Although Apple previously explored potential partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic—and currently allows Siri to tap into ChatGPT for specific queries—Google eventually emerged as the primary contender for this deeper integration.
