With massive hits like The Last of Us and Fallout on hiatus, Amazon has moved to capture the spotlight for its next major video game adaptation: the live-action God of War series. The studio released the first official image of Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson in their roles as the iconic father-son duo, Kratos and Atreus.

The promotional image depicts the “Ghost of Sparta” standing beside a tree, observing his son as he takes aim with a bow. Notably, Vinson’s Atreus appears younger than the 11-year-old version fans first encountered in the 2018 PlayStation 4 masterpiece. Despite the age difference, Amazon has confirmed that the core of the series will remain faithful to the games, focusing heavily on the complex, developing relationship between the two.
While the “look” of a live-action Kratos is bound to spark debate—with Ryan Hurst’s version appearing somewhat distinct from his digital counterpart—the true test will likely come once production nears completion and fans hear that first authoritative call of “Boy!”
Following the January announcement of Hurst in the lead role, the rest of the cast has begun to take shape. Joining Hurst and Vinson is Ed Skrein (Deadpool), who was recently confirmed to play the antagonist Baldur. The broader ensemble features an impressive list of talent to fill out the Norse realms:
- Odin: Mandy Patinkin
- Thor: Ólafur Darri Ólafsson
- Sif: Teresa Palmer
- Mimir: Alastair Duncan
- Heimdall: Max Parker
- The Huldra Brothers: Jeff Gulka (Sindri) and Danny Woodburn (Brok)
With such a robust cast, the series appears poised to dive deep into the mythology that revitalized the franchise.
