Assab, 19 June 2024 – Staff members of the Eritrean Naval Force Southern Command extended financial support to families of martyrs on 15 June. The event, organized in the port city of Assab, was attended by Brig. Gen. Abraham Andom, Commander of the Eastern Command of the Eritrean Defense Forces; Mr. Rezene Michael, secretary of the PFDJ at the Southern Red Sea Region; and other regional officials. A total of 53 thousand Nakfa, collected from the staff of the Eastern Command, was distributed to families of martyrs.
Lt. Col. Goitom Kidane, Commander of the Western Command of the Naval Force, commended the initiative and called on others to follow this noble example.
Mr. Yosief Fesehaye, head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare in the region, noted that the support by the Naval Force members was in continuation of the similar initiatives by nationals both inside the country and abroad. He emphasized the need for sustainability of this support.
In related news, government employees in Teseney, residents of Aligidir, and members of the Police in the Teseney sub-zone conducted a popular campaign at the Martyrs Cemetery in connection with Martyrs Day, 20 June.
A similar campaign was conducted at the Martyrs Cemetery in the Adi-Keih sub-zone, attended by government employees and over 350 lecturers and students of Adi-Keih College of Business and Social Science.
Residents of various sub-zones in the Anseba Region also extended financial support to families of martyrs in connection with Martyrs Day.
Students and government employees in the Elabered sub-zone extended 310 thousand Nakfa to 62 families of martyrs. Members of the PFDJ organization and government employees in the Hamelmalo sub-zone distributed 23 thousand Nakfa to four families of martyrs. Furthermore, residents of the 6th, 1st, and 5th administrative areas in Keren city contributed 102 thousand Nakfa in support of families of martyrs.
