Energizer launches new laptops to push battery limits

Avenir Telecom is launching a new line of Energizer-branded laptops built for extreme battery life. The lineup includes three productivity-focused models: the Energizer EnergyBook Pro 15, EnergyBook Pro XL 18, and the flagship EnergyBook Pro Ultra.

The Pro Ultra comes with an 18-inch display at 1920 × 1200 resolution and an enormous 192Wh battery—nearly double the capacity found in most high-end laptops. Hardware specs include an AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB NVMe SSD. Connectivity options cover USB-C, USB 3.0, HDMI, an SD card reader, and a headphone jack. Pricing starts at €449 (about $523), though that figure likely applies to one of the smaller models. Avenir Telecom has yet to provide further details.

The company claims the massive battery delivers up to 28 hours of “intensive office use” or a week of standby time. Impressive on paper—but problematic in practice. Aviation authorities impose strict limits on lithium batteries: the FAA bans any single battery over 160Wh from passenger flights, while anything above 100Wh requires carrier approval. That’s why most laptops cap their batteries at 99–100Wh.

Canada’s security authority allows certain exceptions for mobility-aid batteries, but only if they’re removable and stored separately. With its built-in 192Wh pack, the EnergyBook Pro Ultra may never leave the ground. For now, it looks like Energizer’s latest machine is destined to be a road-trip companion, not an in-flight workhorse.
