Asmara, 07 December 2023- The Ministry of Health branch in the Central Region called for an integrated effort to expand vaccination programs to control diseases that could occur during childhood.
Mr. Gebru Hirui, coordinator of the vaccination program at the Ministry of Health branch in the region, said that the expansion of the vaccination program for children under one year of age and adult females is very important in controlling diseases and disabilities.
Mr. Gebru went on to say that in the Central region, there are 5 community hospitals and 26 health stations providing vaccination to children and adult women.
According to Mr. Gebru, children’s vaccination coverage that was about 93.1% in 2010 has risen to 98.2% in 2017 and to 99.6% in 2021 and called for more effort to raise the percentage to 100.
Mr. Gebru also said that at the second phase of the cervical cancer vaccination, 99.6% of young females from 9 to 14 years old have been vaccinated and commended all those that participated for the success of the program.
