DStv drops decoder prices and launches bill-splitting feature

As the temporary promotions of late 2025 wind down, MultiChoice (now under the ownership of France’s Canal+) has announced a series of permanent product changes designed to retain price-sensitive subscribers. The strategy focuses on lowering the barrier to entry through aggressive hardware discounts and introducing flexible payment options within the MyDStv app.

DStv has effectively made its promotional decoder pricing permanent through April 30, 2026. The most dramatic price cuts affect the entry-level HD models and the mid-tier Explora 3B.

In a first for the platform, DStv is addressing the reality of shared household expenses. A new tool in the MyDStv app allows primary account holders to send a payment link to another person, effectively splitting the monthly bill between two contributors. This feature is specifically aimed at roommates or family members who share living costs and want a more formal way to divide subscription fees.

To add value to its most affordable tier, the DStv Access package has received three new channels at no additional cost:

Additionally, the company is doubling down on its DStv Rewards program. Since its launch in October 2025, subscribers have redeemed over 20 million DStv Coins to offset their monthly subscription costs. The app now also features competitions for FIFA World Cup experiences, positioning the MyDStv app as a central hub for account management and “gamified” loyalty.
