Black Friday gaming deal FAQs

What’s the difference between a gaming laptop and any other laptop?

To put things simply, the biggest differences between a gaming laptop and a regular laptop are in hardware power and design.

Modern games take more power to run than other apps, like word processors and internet browsers. As such, gaming laptops have more powerful processors and graphics cards in order to support those games. This also makes them better at running intensive content creation apps like Photoshop, Blender, and more.

That increase in power means that gaming laptops need a different physical design, too. Gaming laptops tend to be bigger and heavier than other models, and have more vents to expel the heat that the hardware creates. Small and portable gaming laptops tend to be more expensive and yet disproportionately weaker than their bigger counterparts.

Gaming laptops are usually more expensive than standard, everyday laptops. But the increase in power means they can run more programs, including at the same time, and will usually last for a longer time without becoming outdated. What kind of keyboard and mouse should I buy to play PC games?

In general, the most important thing about any mouse or keyboard is that it’s comfortable. Comfortable accessories let you play for longer without pain or strain, which hurt your focus and energy.

But beyond that, I recommend a gaming mouse with a textured grip and adjustable DPI (movement sensitivity), and a mechanical keyboard that gives every press a tactile response. These offer a higher amount of customization, which lets you tailor any setup to your exact needs, and can in theory improve input speeds. Is Black Friday a good time to buy games and gaming accessories?

Absolutely. Hundreds of popular products receive discounts on Black Friday, and games aren’t an exception to that rule. You should expect games and accessories to go down in price — many of them are hitting all-time low prices. Both Black Friday and Cyber Monday are fantastic times to buy games, other tech products, and more.
