The 2025 Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award in South Africa has concluded by honouring two extraordinary women: Retang Phaahla, Co-founder and CEO of Setšong Tea Crafters, and Dr Phindile Cebekhulu-Msomi, Founder and CEO of Hazile Group.
Now in its fourth year locally and 53rd globally, the Bold Woman Award celebrates visionary women who lead with courage and impact, inspired by Madame Clicquot’s trailblazing legacy.
Bold Woman Award Winner:
Retang Phaahla – CEO, Setšong Tea Crafters
A former quantity surveyor turned entrepreneur, Retang Phaahla co-founded Setšong Tea Crafters with her mother to revive indigenous South African tea traditions and empower rural communities. Based in Limpopo, Setšong is more than a tea company—it’s a platform for cultural preservation, women’s empowerment, and sustainable agro-processing.
“Boldness is choosing to lead with purpose, even when the path is uncharted,” says Retang, whose business transforms rondavels into manufacturing hubs and brings economic opportunities to the Sekhukhune District. She remains unapologetically rooted in her heritage, crafting teas that are as healing as they are symbolic of tradition and resilience.
Bold Future Award Winner:
Dr Phindile Cebekhulu-Msomi – CEO, Hazile Group
Dr Phindile Cebekhulu-Msomi leads Hazile Group, a black female-led enterprise driving climate-smart solutions through hydroponic farming, clean water innovation, and renewable energy. Her mission: to tackle South Africa’s toughest environmental and social issues while advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“Being bold is building even when the odds are stacked against you, and rising anyway—not just for yourself, but for the generation behind you,” she says. Through Hazile and her other ventures—including Acumind Consulting and the Basadi Bakopane NGO—Dr Phindile is reshaping the green economy and creating inclusive opportunities for women and youth.
As they join the Veuve Clicquot global community of bold leaders, Retang and Dr Phindile carry forward a legacy of fearless innovation, cultural pride, and impact-driven leadership—lighting the way for a future where women lead boldly and inclusively.
