Amazon reportedly developing a Wolfenstein TV series

Following the critical and commercial success of its Fallout adaptation, Amazon is reportedly delving into another beloved video game franchise: Wolfenstein. Variety reports that Amazon is developing a series based on the alternate-history Nazi-hunting game, enlisting some of the creative minds behind the hit Fallout show.

Details about how the series will adapt Wolfenstein’s action-packed premise are still under wraps. However, Variety quotes the show’s logline as “The story of killing Nazis is evergreen,” a seemingly direct acknowledgment of the subject matter’s unfortunate contemporary relevance.

Patrick Somerville, known for writing and showrunning Station Eleven, is reportedly set to write the Wolfenstein adaptation. Lisa Joy, Athena Wickham, and Jonathan Nolan will produce the series through their company, Kilter Films. Kilter Films also produced Amazon’s adaptation of William Gibson’s The Peripheral and currently produces Fallout, suggesting a strong creative synergy for this new project.

Interestingly, while a new show might typically align with a new game release, the Wolfenstein game series has been dormant since 2019. MachineGames, the Microsoft-owned developer behind the last five Wolfenstein titles, hasn’t released a new entry since Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot in 2019. The studio recently launched Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in December 2024.

Given the current challenges within Microsoft’s Xbox division, this potential Wolfenstein series from Amazon could be the franchise’s best path forward, assuming the project moves ahead.
