Internet service provider Afrihost has made significant revisions to its fixed-4G and fixed-5G packages, consolidating them under the simplified banner of “Wireless” offerings. This move also includes the introduction of a new, high-speed uncapped option on the Vodacom network for R799 per month.

Afrihost no longer explicitly distinguishes between 4G and 5G plans. Instead, the “Wireless” products now advertise a wide range of average speeds. On the MTN and Vodacom networks, users can expect average speeds between 10 Mbps and 150 Mbps. Offerings on the Telkom network, meanwhile, range from 20 Mbps to 40 Mbps. The most budget-friendly options, available on Vodacom and MTN, start at R299 per month for speeds up to 20 Mbps. All packages remain month-to-month and require a router.
While pricing for most existing packages remains unchanged, Afrihost has adjusted the Fair Usage Policies (FUPs) on its MTN Pure Wireless products. These FUPs define usage thresholds after which speeds are reduced to prevent network congestion.
Notable changes include:
- MTN Pure Wireless 100 Mbps: This option will now throttle down to 20 Mbps after the first 250 GB of usage per month.
- Wireless Plus (formerly Pure 5G Pro): This premium plan implements a tiered throttling system: speeds are reduced to 50 Mbps after the first 250 GB, then to 20 Mbps after 500 GB, and finally to 4 Mbps after reaching 1 TB.
Afrihost’s Vodacom Wireless line-up now features a new high-end option for R799 per month. This package supports the maximum achievable speed on the Vodacom network for the first 600 GB of consumption. After this threshold, the speed is reduced to 20 Mbps for the remainder of the month.
To support these plans, Afrihost offers a discounted 5G router for R1,499 that is compatible across all supported networks. Router compatibility varies by provider: MTN supports 19 models, Vodacom supports five, and Telkom currently only supports two.
