Africa: Sudan’s AU Permanent Envoy Addresses PSC Meeting At AU Informal Consultative Session

Port Sudan, August 4, 2025 (SUNA) – Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, addressed the Peace and Security Council (PSC) meeting held at the African Union Informal Consultative Session on Monday, which preceded the official sitting on Sudan.

Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim extended a detailed explanation of the developments in the humanitarian, security, and political situation in Sudan, including the formation of the Government of Hope, led by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, which is an important step in implementing the roadmap announced by His Excellency President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, last February.

Sudan’s AU Permanent Representative called on the Council to lift the suspension of Sudan’s participation in African Union activities after the declaration of the roadmap and the completion of the formation of the civilian government, based on the African Solidarity Initiative, with the aim of supporting Sudan in achieving comprehensive peace and reconstruction.

Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim urged PSC to pressure the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia to lift the siege of El-Fashir, withdraw from civil objects , and cease violations against civilians in Kordofan and Darfur. He reiterated his call for PSC to continue condemning the formation of a parallel government by the rebel RSF militia and blocking its path by lifting Sudan AU membership suspension and facilitating its return to the African fold.

The Sudan Envoy to the Africa Union also called on the PSC to urge Sudan’s neighboring countries not to facilitate the transit of aid to the rebel RSF militia or its elements through their airports and territories.
