The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. @ymahmoudali, today received H.E. Ms. Reem Alabali-Radovan, Germany’s Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Their meeting reaffirmed the strong AU-Germany partnership and underscored the need to further deepen strategic cooperation in support of Africa’s development priorities.
The Chairperson welcomed the German Chancellor’s initiative in deepening relations with Africa announced at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, noting its alignment with AU frameworks and its potential to advance mutually beneficial cooperation. He commended Germany’s leadership in renewable energy and the global clean-energy transition, and encouraged intensified knowledge-sharing with African countries.
H.E. Youssouf also called for continued German and EU support to Ethiopia as it prepares to host COP32 in 2027, emphasising Africa’s growing leadership on global climate governance.
The Chairperson and Minister Alabali-Radovan exchanged views on the situations in Sudan, the DRC, and the Sahel, stressing that sustainable peace requires African-led, nationally and regionally owned solutions.
Chairperson Youssouf further thanked Germany for its steadfast support to humanitarian efforts in Sudan and to countries generously hosting refugees across the region.
