Fans hoping for the next instalment of the BioShock franchise may have to wait even longer. According to a Bloomberg report, the game being developed by Cloud Chamber has failed a review with 2K Games executives, primarily due to concerns with its narrative. As a result, the story will be “revamped in the coming months,” delaying the project even further.

In a statement to Bloomberg, 2K Games acknowledged the situation, saying it has a “good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one.” The fourth instalment has the difficult task of following up on the critically acclaimed success of BioShock Infinite, which was released in 2013.
The development issues are compounded by recent leadership changes at Cloud Chamber. The studio’s head, Kelley Gilmore, has reportedly left her role, and the creative director, Hogarth de la Plante, has been moved to a publishing position. Additionally, the report mentions that developers were told in a recent meeting that the company “needs to become more agile and efficient,” raising concerns about potential layoffs.
The new BioShock title, though unconfirmed, was announced along with the creation of the Cloud Chamber studio in 2019. Six years later, the game is still in development. This isn’t the only BioShock project in limbo; Bloomberg also reports that a planned remake of the original BioShock was reportedly shelved earlier this year by 2K Games.
