Dakota Johnson is as much of a fashion icon as she is a movie star. Her outfits this year have ranged from casual jeans to see-through gowns. She’s also worn crop tops and plunging necklines on red carpets.
There’s no doubt that Dakota Johnson is a fashion superstar.
Since starring in “Fifty Shades of Grey” — the $40 million-dollar budget movie that brought in $570 million worldwide — in 2015, the actor has been wearing showstopping looks on the red carpet and off.
And that’s not to mention how many of her best outfits have been extremely bold, from gowns with plunging necklines to a see-through catsuit at the Met Gala.
So here’s a look at some of the outfits she’s sported so far this year, ranked from least to most daring.

She was photographed in New York City wearing bootcut jeans, chunky black shoes, a black leather trench coat, and a gray sweatshirt.
Though the outfit wasn’t daring, it was a quintessential New York look. She completed it with orange-tinted sunglasses, a $4,980 suede Gucci bag, and gold hoop earrings.

She stepped out in a gray Rebecca Vallance suit with pinstripes, worn with a black tank top underneath.
It was far from Johnson’s boldest look this year but extremely chic. She paired it with black Bottega Veneta pumps, brown sunglasses, and a $15,200 yellow-gold necklace from Sidney Garber.

While in New York City that month, Johnson sported a Loewe coat, classic blue jeans, a maroon top, $1,490 zip-up boots from The Row, and a $3,100 Bottega Veneta handbag.
But the most fun part of her outfit was the bright-green scarf she wrapped around her head.

She was photographed in New York City wearing a statement coat crafted from brown shearling fur that perfectly aligned with the “mob wife” fashion trend. The Toteme piece retails for $4,800.
She also wore white skinny jeans, black sunglasses, and the same boots from The Row she sported days earlier.

She appeared on the show wearing a $1,250 black strapless minidress from Wardrobe NYC, semi-sheer black tights, and pointed pumps with thin ankle straps.
Not only was her short dress a bold choice, but so was her diamond necklace from Belperron. As the brand wrote on Instagram, the jewelry featured a 65-carat light-yellow diamond.
Similar pieces listed on the Belperron website are valued between $121,000 and $145,000 each.

Johnson chose a black two-piece set from Versace for an event in London. It included a cropped blazer with a plunging neckline and a mid-rise pencil skirt that dipped past her knees.
To complete the outfit, Johnson wore delicate rings and the same pair of Bottega Veneta heels she wore in New York.

While in New York City in early February, she was photographed wearing a knit maxi dress from Tom Ford. A white version of the gown retailed for $2,990.
She wore the see-through garment with a black bodysuit and thigh-high leather boots from Bottega Veneta.
Johnson also kept warm with a leather Gucci jacket and added two pops of color with a red Gucci purse and matching sunglasses.

Designed by Luis Estévez, Johnson’s vintage gown was made from red satin and featured a V-shaped neckline that extended to her stomach.
She paired the bold dress with layered necklaces and red bracelets and styled her hair in loose waves, which contrasted with the gown’s straight pleated lines.

Her vintage Alaïa gown was see-through, sleeveless, and featured a black stripe design. Johnson wore it with only black underwear and a feathered YSL shawl across her chest.
The same daring dress is listed on the luxury marketplace 1stDibs at the time of writing for $39,995.

For the evening event, Johnson wore a white Gucci gown with a straight skirt and a chainmail top embellished with crystals.
The daring dress design also featured a plunging neckline and thick straps, drawing all attention to the sparkling bodice.
Johnson went the opposite route for her accessories, however, wearing pearl jewelry from Boucheron instead of diamonds.

She arrived on the red carpet for the “Daddio” premiere in a sheer Gucci dress with thin straps and a lace bodice. The gown was bold in color and design, as the piece revealed her lace undergarments.
That night, Johnson accessorized her look with strappy black sandals and jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

Gucci custom-made her chainmail dress, which, aside from the crystal links draped across her body, gave the illusion that she was naked.
It was also bold thanks to its sleeveless design and plunging neckline, which nearly reached her waist. She wore a mix of diamond rings and a statement choker for jewelry.
