Workshop on Tigre Language Oral Poetry Concluded

Asmara, 4 March 2024 – A workshop dedicated to the oral poetry of the Tigre language, held at the Asmara Palace Hotel, successfully concluded on 3 March. The event, which began on March 1, saw participation from representatives across the country who engaged in detailed discussions aimed at enriching a comprehensive 600-page research book on the subject.

The discussions covered various aspects of the Tigre oral poetry, including writing styles, content, and other relevant topics pertaining to the language, history, and poetry itself. Participants shared their insights and suggestions, contributing to the depth and breadth of the research.

Ambassador Zemede Tekle, Commissioner of Culture and Sports, highlighted the significance of the workshop and the research book in preserving the Tigre oral tradition. He emphasized its role in transferring this rich heritage to future generations and serving as a reference for further research. Ambassador Tekle also expressed hope that the success of this workshop would encourage other ethnic groups within the country to organize similar events.

The primary goal of the workshop was to finalize the research book, which details the lifestyle, nationalism, heroism, ethics, and work ethic of the Tigre ethnic community, thereby showcasing the cultural richness of the Tigre language and its oral traditions.
