Google unveils Pixel Watch 5 with metabolic health tracking

Following an improbable initial leak via a scuba diving discovery, Google has officially launched the Pixel Watch 5. While the smartwatch’s exterior design closely mirrors its predecessor, it introduces major health-monitoring algorithms, expanded storage, and performance tweaks beneath the hood.

Rather than overhauling the external hardware, Google focused its upgrades on continuous, non-invasive health tracking. The Pixel Watch 5 features a new Blood Pressure Trends capability, which uses internal sensors to passively observe pulse and movement patterns before generating a contextualized insight report on the first of each month. Additionally, a new Health Guardian suite estimates insulin resistance and tracks metabolic health without requiring needles or blood draws, effectively serving as a personal energy efficiency meter that measures how well the body processes food into energy.

On the performance front, the Pixel Watch 5 receives meaningful internal upgrades. The device is powered by the upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor for enhanced processing power, paired with 64GB of onboard storage—doubling the capacity of the Pixel Watch 4. On the software side, Google introduced new watch complications alongside an interactive tool that allows users to create their own custom complications using generative AI prompts.
