West Africa: MFWA Partners Unwanted Witness, DPC, Hewlett Foundation for 8th Privacy Symposium Africa

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) is partnering with Uganda-based Unwanted Witness (UW), Ghana’s Data Protection Commission (DPC), and the Hewlett Foundation to organise the eighth edition of the Privacy Symposium Africa (PSA), themed “Money. Data. Control.”

The symposium, which will take place on 25 and 26 November 2026, seeks to examine the intersection of economic value, data governance, and digital power, creating space for critical conversations on how Africa can harness innovation while safeguarding privacy, protecting fundamental rights, and strengthening public trust.

The symposium will convene about 200 participants, including policymakers, data protection authorities, regulators, technology companies, financial institutions, civil society organisations, academia, journalists, and development partners from across Africa and beyond, to exchange ideas, share experiences, and develop practical solutions to emerging data governance challenges.

As part of the symposium, MFWA will organise and facilitate the PSA Insight Lab, a master class for journalists, technology reporters, editors, and other digital media actors on the data economy and digital systems.
