While Apple enthusiasts await a foldable iPhone, Samsung is moving to cement its market dominance at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled for July 22, 2026, in London. While official event teasers broadly promise “innovations that build on leadership in foldables,” supply chain leaks point to a historic shift: Samsung may debut two distinct versions of its book-style foldable alongside its traditional clamshell upgrade.

The most notable rumour heading into Unpacked is the introduction of a dual-tier flagship lineup. The base Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to introduce a wider main display, altering the aspect ratio to improve media consumption when unfolded. However, to offset production costs, Samsung may reduce the rear camera array from three lenses to two.
Conversely, a premium Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is heavily rumoured to anchor the top of the lineup. This flagship variant will likely retain a full triple-camera system, a faster next-generation processor, quicker charging capabilities, and advanced display technology that significantly reduces the visibility of the screen crease. While exact design boundaries remain unconfirmed, Samsung’s recent social media teasers explicitly highlight a “wider design,” validating a major structural shakeup for the Z Fold family.
The compact Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be joined by the next-generation Galaxy Z Flip 8. The clamshell foldable is expected to feature a reworked hinge mechanism, a lighter chassis, and incremental performance improvements. However, consumers should not expect a radical aesthetic overhaul; a persistent global RAM shortage has reportedly made sweeping component upgrades cost-prohibitive this year.
Beyond smartphones, the event may feature glimpses of Samsung’s broader hardware ecosystem. Potential appearances include the Galaxy Watch 9, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, or prototype Android XR smart glasses. However, industry analysts suggest Samsung may restrict these wearables to brief teasers, saving full product rollouts for a dedicated event later this autumn.
For consumers eager to secure the hardware early, Samsung has opened reservation pipelines ahead of the keynote. Customers who reserve a device prior to the official unveiling will receive a $30 credit toward their subsequent pre-order. The Galaxy Unpacked presentation will stream live on Samsung.com and Samsung’s official YouTube channel on July 22.
