Anthropic has officially announced Claude Tag (@Claude), an always-on AI assistant currently launching in a research preview. Designed with a single, shared identity per Slack channel, the system is built to handle team-wide workflows, positioning it as a highly capable evolution of traditional workplace bots.

Unlike traditional AI integrations that operate in isolated, one-on-one direct messages, Claude Tag is accessible to every member of a designated Slack channel simultaneously.
By typing @Claude, anyone in the channel can summon the assistant, view its active tasks in real time, and seamlessly pick up a collaborative thread exactly where a colleague left off. As the bot interacts within a specific channel, it continuously learns the unique context, vocabulary, and operational habits of that team, drastically reducing the need for repetitive onboarding or prompt explanations over time.
With the appropriate security clearances, a channel’s localized version of @Claude can aggregate data from disparate silos across the wider organization.
When system administrators enable its optional “ambient” behaviour, the assistant shifts from a reactive tool to a proactive collaborator. In this mode, Claude Tag can actively monitor company-wide data streams to surface relevant cross-departmental updates directly to the team, and even flag internal tasks that have stalled or haven’t received an update for an extended period.
Recognizing the compliance and security anxieties associated with data-aggregating bots, Anthropic has emphasized that Claude Tag’s boundaries are rigidly sandboxed.
Strict Admin Guardrails: A system administrator must explicitly define and tightly control which data repositories, software tools, and sensitive files @Claude can access on a channel-by-channel basis. The bot cannot independently scrape unauthorized zones of a company network.
The research preview of Claude Tag is rolling out initially to organizations on Claude Enterprise and Claude Team tiers via Slack. While restricted to premium tiers during its research phase, Anthropic expects to expand availability to a broader user base as the deployment scales.
