A few hours after testimony wrapped in the civil fraud trial against Donald Trump and his organization, the lower Manhattan courthouse was evacuated.
Two courthouse officials told Business Insider that the evacuation was prompted by a man setting off a fire extinguisher on the fourth floor of the courthouse. The man, who was not identified, was arrested, they said.
One source at the courthouse, who was not authorized to speak to BI, said that the man had set papers on fire and then set off “a couple” of fire extinguishers.
The Trump trial was also held in a 4th floor courtroom, and Judge Arthur Engoron was among the evacuees.
There was yelling before officials began evacuating people.
After being evacuated, officials told evacuees that they could wear a mask to go inside and collect belongings before coming back outside.
Engoron was then taken back up into the building in an elevator.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the man to set fire to papers in the building.
