Uber unveils “everything app” ambitions with hotel bookings and AI features

At its annual Go-Get product showcase, Uber announced a significant expansion of its services, positioning itself as a direct competitor in the travel and personal assistance markets. The updates aim to transform the platform into a comprehensive travel hub, rivalling the “everything app” vision often associated with competitors like X.

Uber has officially launched a Hotels feature within its app, powered by a partnership with Expedia. Available now in the US, the service provides access to over 700,000 properties worldwide. Users can filter results directly on the home screen to find accommodations that meet their specific needs.

The expansion into lodging doesn’t stop at traditional hotels; Uber confirmed that VRBO vacation rentals will be integrated into the platform later this year. To incentivize these bookings, Uber One members will receive 10% of their payment back as Uber credit, which can be used to cover transportation costs like airport transfers.

Starting June 1, Uber is removing geographic restrictions on rewards. Uber One members will be able to utilize their earned credits across dozens of supported countries, moving away from the current “home country only” limitation.

Additionally, a new Travel Mode will automatically activate when users are away from their home city. This feature provides localized information on pricing and service differences, alongside curated recommendations for nearby attractions and dining. Uber Eats is also integrating OpenTable to allow for seamless restaurant reservations directly through the app.
