Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to working with the African Union (AU), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and the Organisation of American States (OAS) to advance the global reparation agenda, following what it has described as a landmark victory for reparatory justice.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Friday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said Ghana would sustain momentum in pursuing historical justice, equity, and recognition for Africans and people of African descent.
He said the government would collaborate with all member states of the United Nations, including those that did not support the initiative, to ensure effective implementation of the resolution and deepen dialogue on reparatory justice.
“Ghana will continue to work with deep resolve to put in place the necessary mechanisms to support the implementation of this resolution globally,” he stated.

Mr Ablakwa noted that the country’s position was anchored in its commitment to Pan-African ideals and justice for historical injustices, describing the development as a step towards addressing the enduring legacy of slavery and systemic inequalities.
He said the government would engage international partners, regional bodies, and civil society actors to promote cooperation in education, cultural restitution, research, and institutional reforms.
According to him, the resolution provides a framework for engagement on reparations, including calls for formal apologies, restitution of cultural artefacts, and measures to address structural discrimination.
Mr Ablakwa stressed the need for unity among stakeholders, noting that reparatory justice required a collective and forward-looking approach grounded in dialogue and mutual respect.
He said Ghana would align its efforts with broader continental initiatives, including the AU’s Decade of Action on Reparations.
The Minister described the development as an opportunity to shift the global conversation on slavery from commemoration to action, towards a more inclusive and equitable international order.
He expressed appreciation to countries and partners that supported the resolution and urged stakeholders to translate its objectives into tangible outcomes that would restore dignity and promote reconciliation.
